Have an older Maytag or similar washing machine? (y’know, the metal kind?) and the clock motor dial doesn’t spin anymore? Chances are the main pinion gear is shot. For some reason they made the main gears out of something other than nylon and they just dissolved over time. Here’s a replacement.
I’ve beefed up the dogs (as that tended to be what sheared off). This probably won’t print accurately enough on a filament FDM printer. The one I prototyped was done on an epoxy/UV system and it works a treat! I was going to have it printed in brass but I don’t think I need to. There is such a small load on this pinion that the epoxy version should give years of trouble free use.

These old washing machines are tanks and will run forever if you can find a few replacement parts. The new plastic machines will break in 5 years or so. It’s tough to find the right clock motors but as I say it’s usually not the motor, just the main gear.

Print and enjoy!
