Mechanical Butterfly

Everything fits together fairly easily, as in the diagram, but welding/gluing the butterfly stand to the crankshaft box's lid.
The only tricky part is the flexible "shaft" on the crank, connecting the crankshaft to the rack.
I recommend using a thin jewellery chain as it slides easily on the crankshaft and the length does not slip.

You may also have to snip the corner pieces if they point too far up/down.

You can put a pin through the wings, but I secured them with glue.

I glued on red cellophane with metallic gold spray paint spattered on top for the left wing membrane.

This version is scaled 80% from the original, so the filament for the feelers and proboscis will need some stretching with a heat gun/hair dyer
