This is a mechanical cryptex design that I created based on The DaVinci Code Cryptex Mechanism. Rather than being like a bike lock, It uses a gear for each letter wheel, so you will need 1 of each end cap, 4-5 letter rings and 1 less support ring than the letter rings and 1 gear for each letter rings. In the image you can see how it should be assembled. You'll need dowel to put the whole thing together. There should be enough holes to have glued dowels and loose dowels that have gears and are only glued on one end. I also have not finished the locking mechanism, but it could be completed by gluing tabs on the end of the dowels and cutting holes in the end caps.
*if anyone prints it id love to see how it came out because the first one i tried came out too rough because of the printer
