This design features the state of Michigan in the United States of America. Our state consists of two peninsulas. The upper peninsulas is on the lid while the lower is in the main box. This was made from 1/8" thick (3 mm) Black Walnut, Red Oak, and Cherry woods. The specific species of wood is not important, they should just be three different types. The Michigan Box can also be made from stained 1/8" plywood. The three contrasting wood types are layered together with each being glued to the next. Once the glue cured I applied mineral oil to help protect the wood as well as bring out the beautiful wood grain. In the design file the labels are there for informational purposes only if you want your design to match the pictures. For the fine gluing I find a glue syringe to be quite useful. I use wood glue (PVA glue), but I know some makers who use CA glue for layered laser projects.
