The micromake Kossel uses a fan attached a little ways away from the extruder to cool the extruder. This design works well for PLA as the spillage of air currents also helps cool the print. However, ABS is a different beast and any cooling is bad. The fan severely affects the quality of adhesion of the first layer as it cools the filament and the heatbed and also introduces warping.
Furthering issues, my end effector was reprinted recently in PLA and having the fan off is undesirable. This part allows the cooling fan to remain on while not affecting the printing of ABS.
The two nubs fit into the 40mm stock fan and the key hole wraps around the lowest fin on the extruder
