The Compaq Portable was the first portable IBM PC compatible. "Portable" really - it weighed about 50 pounds. But it was a real PC, and you could even upgrade it with add-on cards and all that.

Pretty simple build - the keyboard colors are the only thing to keep an eye out for. Also remember to put the screen sticker onto the body before you glue the faceplate into place.
