Here’s my entry for the “NASA Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot (RASSOR) Bucket Drum Design Challenge” found here: https://grabcad.com/challenges/nasa-regolith-advanced-surface-systems-operations-robot-rassor-bucket-drum-design-challenge Sitting in my home wating for the Corona virus to blow over I saw this contest and started thinking. Why not use the same wheels to dig as to move the rover? This would make the whole unit much smaller, lighter and less complex. So I sketched up this suggestion on how the wheels could be made to dig by rotating in different directions and the regolith will fall down into a compartment in the center. This compartment can perhaps be emptied to the sides using a achimedes screw or something. It is easier to scale the volume of the compartment and to perhaps interface it with transportation belts or transportation rovers. I hope you like the idea, at least it is something different.
