This 3D printable topographic model captures the visible surface of the Moon with striking detail, showcasing its craters, mountains, and maria. Easy to print and rich in texture, it brings the lunar surface within reach for study, admiration, or conversationThe moon doesn't rotate relative to the earth, so we always see the same side. The moon does wobble in it's orbitallowing us to see a total of around 59 % of its surface. This is a topographical model of the whole of the visible surface of the moon (plus a bit 63% total).If you've never looked at the moon through a telescope, you're missing out. It's not the flat beige grey disk it looks from earth. It's got a rich textured surface covered in mountains and craters. When looking through a telescope, it's only really possible to see the surface detail close to shadowed edge of the moon (the terminator) this model allows you to appreciate all the surface detail at once and my help astronomers figure out what they're looking at.The model set also includes a small stand so you can display and more easily view your model.I used NASA height data from here: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/4720/ to create this model. It's surface height data taken by the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) instrument on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio.Below is the base image I used to create the texture for this model. I modified the image, stretching the contrast to produce a better print, this means the surface is more exaggerated than it would otherwise be. An accurate scale model at 100% size would have a total surface deviation of ~0.7mm, which would make a very dull print.Recommended Parameters:Slicer software: Creality Print 6.1+Printer: Any FDM/FFF (Filament) printer.Filaments: ASA, PLA, PETGInfill: 20%Retraction: Mate
