This design is to make a motion-activated "Harry Potter" style LED wand that lights up with a blue-white LED when the wand is raised vertically and the light goes off when the wand is lowered. The wand relies on a tilt switch and needs about $10 in parts as well as a soldering iron and solder.
If you want to skip the whole LED and tilt-switch thing, you can just print it out and use it as a costume wand and I think it looks pretty good. But the whole automatic light-up LED trick is pretty neat and is pretty much guaranteed to put a smile on any child that holds it.
Full build instructions, including parts and where I bought them, and photos of the wand being put together are here:

I printed the parts in under two hours and assembled it in about an hour the first time. Now that I've made wands for five children, I'm down to about 20 minutes to put one together.
It does not need glue for assem
