https://grabcad.com/challenges/nec-display-solutions-design-challenge Here are some key points regarding this design: • The monitor is the core element that the desk has been designed around. • It features a “backbone” element which can accommodate third party monitor arms. • Can also accommodate third party keyboard arms for full user custom ability. • Features a front fileted edge for ease of comfort. • Has integrated compartments for cable routing and hiding objects like power socket extensions and transformers. • Features access openings on either side under the desk for easy connectivity to tower PCs and workstations. • Features a rear opening lid for accessing the integrated compartments. The lid leaves a gap for cable routing which is covered by a brush strip that protects from dust etc. • Exclusivity – Personalisation. Is achieved with the interchangeable top and back panels. They can be of various materials i.e. wood veneered panels (shown in renderings), Kerlite, Corian, Stainless Steel, glass, HPL… the possibilities are endless. An overkill version would be a top panel with integrated touch keyboard and touchpad. • The legs could be made of carbon fibre veneered plywood for best structural stiffness. The main body from a carbon fibre – plywood – fiberglass sandwich. Again the stiffness is needed so it can withstand the weight of 3 or 6 30” monitors. The monitor and keyboard arms I used are form HumanScale since their models were available for download. NEC monitor and concealed hinge are from GrabCAD.
