This ninja star was modeled on Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012 and printed on the Makerbot Thing-O-Matic using 3mm plastic filament. I created design because i wanted to make something that served a cool and interesting purpose. Rather than making a useless figurine, i decided to manufacture a functional ninja star. I started by making this design in Autodesk Inventor and used the chamfer tool to make the blades of the star, which were made very thin. The point of this was to test how thin the Makerbot Thing-o-Matic could print. As it turns out, the makerbot did not print very thin. Also, the thinnest layers were very weak. What I would do differently next time is not to make the blades as thin. I would keep them thicker to make it stronger. Also, I would make the fill 100% because the ninja star could be a little bit heavier.
