This blender file of the nitrogen nucleus has overlapping protons and neutrons, so a 3D printer can make it. Also, an .obj file is provided for non-Blender folks.
Nitrogen-14 is like carbon-13 with an extra proton.
A simple cubic lattice of nucleons is in the core of nitrogen. The six faces of the cube are covered by protons and neutrons. 6 plus 8 is 14. The cube has 2x2x2=8 nucleons. That is, two protons and six neutrons in the cubic center. Those two protons in the core of the nucleus resemble the allocation of two s electrons in an atomic model.
White protons, blue neutrons. Notice in the first picture, a 3-way proton structure is seen. This is like the 3 charges that nitrogen has commonly used in a description of its chemistry. If you look at the nitrogen-2 molecule, its chemical diagram shows 3 bond lines. That is matching the 3 proton extremities shown in figure 1.
