Welcome to Novam, a free tool for turning heightmaps and images into 3D .STL files for 3d printers. It also has rendering functionality.

Don't mind the trolls. This link is perfectly safe, i would not put my name on anything that spread malware, if you are still in doubt, the program can also be downloaded from this site.
If you are a architect, printing out the area around the next big project might become very valuable.
