I have been waiting for my bearings and smooth rod to come in to post this. I recieved everything and dry fitted the bearings. They seem to work pretty well. I am hoping they will hold the weight of the solidoodle bed.
This is an openSCAD adaptation of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:112718. The idea is [Mark Sollack's][1] but the code is all mine. I added a quite a few options like support for up to 5 bearings, adjustable bearing size, selectable smooth rod size, customizable mounting holes and more.
The mounting solutions in customizer works for Solidoodles and a few other solutions however, the script can be altered to work with all types of mounting. See instructions for help selecting standard bearing sizes. I commented just about every section in the script so it should be extremely easy to make changes.
Update:
My current prototype as pictured is using 3 x 625zz bearings on 8mm smooth rod. I shorted myself on mounting screw depth on this one so I am in the process
