Overview:My in-laws own a cabin that has a number of orioles and hummingbirds but an aging feeder hanging from a tree. We recently installed a new aluminum square railing, so I decided to design a new feeder to attach to it. The design had these goals:Attract orioles and allow them to feed on jelly.Be able to easily bring remaining jelly in and store in the refrigerator when we’re not around.Be able to easily move the feeder around or remove it for the season.There are two main versions of the feeder. One has perches around the full perimeter and screws to the top of the brackets. The other one screws to the side and needs to be secured with a special dovetailed key that fits tight and keeps any fat or fighting birds from tipping and unthreading the feeder. This version was created to keep the entire feeder outside of the deck area, so it won’t get bumped. There are also drainage holes inside the trays in case water gets under the cup.
