I wanted to make a camera mount that would allow me to get shots from above and behind me as I fished from my kayak, so I made this using a $5 extendable paint pole from Lowe's. It uses the 5 threads per inch thread pattern from halley's model. It screws on tightly to the paint pole and is held together with 1/4" x 20 bolts and lock nuts. The camera can pan and tilt and maintains its angle due to the use of a rubber washer that grips the striations in the parts nicely.
This should work with any camera that uses the standard 1/4-20 mounting screw, but it could easily be adapted for use with other cameras.
