Designing gears for 3D printing can often be a frustrating process. While platforms like MakerWorld offer shared models, I frequently found that most gear generators available provided only basic shapes, lacking the granular control needed for precise adjustments. Downloading static STL files meant further modifications were nearly impossible without starting over. Crucially, for designing complex gear trains and mechanical assemblies, I couldn't find adequate generators that supported multi-layer step rings – a truly essential feature! This challenge inspired me to dive into OpenSCAD and develop the Parametric Ring Step Generator. My goal was simple: to create a tool that makes designing customizable and functional multi-layer gear rings significantly easier for everyone.
