The pedal is designed within the given specs to be as lightweight and strong as possible. And also to be aesthetically pleasing while still performing as intended. Small an compact with internal bearing for smooth and effortless functioning and internal torsional spring to function correctly with return of pedal once depressed. The pedal is divided into 2 halves where the second halve rotates around the first with the use of a hollow shaft and bearing to still accommodate the torsional spring and -shaped shaft for pot operation. The second half is fixed to the car body by use of three M4 bolts in order to have a strong and stable fixture point ( 2 bolts might be enough also). The two halves are seperated also with a plastic gasket with bearing properties to seal but also not limit movement of the casings. The pedal main body screws onto the second housing. and the foot rest screws onto the main pedal body in to bushings located in the body. The foot rest and bushings where designed to have multiple set ups to optimize the location of the pedal for driver comfort. The two housing have stopping faces to limit the range of movement to 40 degrees. The housing can be made of either alumunium alloys like 6063 or strong thermoplastics like PBI. Both sufficiently strong enough to withstand the forces of about 1200N on the pedal foot rest. The advantage of moth is that they are easily machinable,lightweight and strong and both are easily moldable either conventional like for alumunium or injection molded for the plastic. The pedal main body would be more easily manufactured from PBI with injection molded process and is sufficiently strong in both cases of material. with a maximum deformation seen with PBI of +- 4mm well within the yield strength and plastic deformation ranges. Alumunium however is much stronger. The thermal stability of both materials well exceeds 180 degrees celcius.
