Watchmakers use pegwood for cleaning parts and safely handling and moving parts around without scratching them. We use it for cleaning out pivot holes and in that case, it is important to get a sharp point. A smooth conical point is not the desired way. A toothpick for example is not good for cleaning out holes, because the smooth surface just smashes in the grime and doesn't scrape it out.
The best way to sharpen a pegwood stick is to draw the wood toward the blade while holding it at the right angle.
This thing is a simple part that holds a specific carpenter's planer blade, available on Amazon here: https://a.co/d/87Xg22h. It captures the shavings.
Note: make sure to de-burr the blades (all corners except for the cutting edge) as the ones I received had sharp edges all around and those edges will dig into the grooves of the holder and it will bind. You may need to work the blade back and forth a few times to make it run smooth. It should have a little resistance so it doesn
