Lasercut Penrose Puzzle in a likewise lasercut box. A birthday present for a very smart 9 y/o girl, who's an uber puzzler.
Remix of [Flex box](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:35835), which is a remix of [Parametric Flexbox](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:17240). Cut in 3 mm plywood. The puzzle is a remix of [Penrose Snap Tiles](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16184). The "thin rhombuses" are cut in clear acrylic, the "thick ones" in red (both 3mm).
It's a fascinating puzzle. There's five-fold rotational symmetry, but unlike square, triangular and hexagonal tilings it is non-periodic. It NEVER repeats. See [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penrose_tiling) for more background.
Twenty thick and fifteen thin pieces are useful for a small puzzle. There are ten pieces in the SVG file called *thin star*, but only five in the *thick star*. In general, more thick than thin pieces are needed. In a really big puzzle, the ratio of the thick rhombuses to the thin ones is th
