The Permyak Salty Ears monument is the most famous landmark in this Ural city. This urban sculpture consists of two parts: a figure of a photographer and a nearby round frame with large ears. You should position your face in this frame and take a photo, using a real camera, of course. It's no surprise that Permyak Salty Ears is most often featured on magnets and postcards dedicated to the city. Several years ago, the magazine "Russkiy Mir" named this sculpture the strangest monument in Russia. The monument is located next to the Prikamye Hotel on Komsomolsky Prospekt. It's impossible to miss the nearly two-meter-tall sculpture—it's clearly visible, so you're sure to see it while strolling along Komsomolsky Prospekt. The monument's origins are connected to a traditional occupation in the Perm region: industrial salt production. The nickname "Permyak Salty Ears" was given to workers who carried large sacks of salt on their shoulders. The sacks would rub against their ears, which, from constant contact with the salt, would experience an allergic reaction, becoming large and red.
