This is a hardware-based Game Boy Color (GBC) emulator that reads physical cartridges and then streams video and audio directly to a PC over USB. It uses a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 to emulate the GBC hardware. The PCB uses three 74HC595 shift registers which expands the Pico's GPIOs to drive the 16-bit address bus of the GBC cartridge, while a TBX0108 bi-directional level shifter is used for the 8-bit data bus.
Once the Pico 2 reads and processes the game data from the cartridge, it generates video and audio data which is then sent over USB 1.1 to a computer as a UVC/UAC (USB Video class/USB Audio Class) device. This makes it so that the hardware functions 'plug-and-play' without any drivers or custom software. This also means you can use any capture software like OBS or your own custom control scheme app to view the video and audio data streams and also send control inputs back to the Pico 2. Note that this hardware only works with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, not Game Boy Advance g
