This OpenSCAD library cuts objects into interlocking pieces using simple user-defined pins. Included are several commented examples, including the Halo Assault Rifle remix shown above ([also found here][src] ).

Whatever you want it to. You decide where to cut, where to put pins, how long the pins are, and pin thickness.
