I wanted to find a way to reuse tin cans as small, reusable plant cups or seed-starting containers. The main roadblock was figuring out how to get the seedling out when it was time to transplant.I solved that problem with the strategic application of a can opener to the bottom of the can. Of course, that left me with a bottomless metal tube—not exactly ideal for holding soil. But, having anticipated this very outcome, I modeled and printed a drainage cap that clips securely over the crimped edge of the can.At that point, the can was perfectly functional, but it still just looked like... well, an old tin can with a cap on the bottom. So, while not strictly necessary, I designed a little stand/drip tray to give it a more finished look.Now when it's time to transplant, I just pop off the cap and press the soil plug out from the bottom.
