Basic Pool Noodle Sword Handle with integrated threaded insert..
You should not need any supports, and you shouldn't even need a raft.
Basically screw on the handle halfway, use a hot glue gun on threads,(not too hot, you'll melt the foam!) and screw it in the rest of the way, sealing the edge with more hot glue.
