Pope Leo XIV

The new pope, Pope Leo XIV, was elected on May 8, 2025, during the conclave at the Vatican, following the death of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025.Born as Robert Francis Prevost on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, USA, he is the first American pope and the second from the Americas (after Pope Francis). He also holds Peruvian citizenship, having worked extensively in Peru as a missionary and later as the bishop of Chiclayo.He was the Prior General of the Augustinian Order from 2001 to 2013, and in 2023, he was made a cardinal. Before his election as pope, he served as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.Pope Leo XIV chose his papal name to honor Popes Leo I and Leo XIII, both known for their theological insight and social leadership. His first public appearance from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica included a message of gratitude and a call for peace and renewal of faith worldwide.Boost Me
