I am really enjoying the PrintNC build so far and I wanted to contribute with a remix of the T8 riser designed by Hoges. I rotated the hole pattern for the T8 nut by 45 degrees to allow for two M3 nuts to be inserted. These two nuts change the intent of the original design so that the nuts would need to shear through over 1cm of plastic to fail. The original design relied on the plastic in contact with 4 M3 screws to keep a heavy, rotating and vibrating spindle from dropping unexpectedly. I also reduced the through hole diameter of the part to 8.75mm for increased strength.
Another great thing about this design is if you file down the two M3 screws so that they make contact with the carriages, it will eliminate any possible backlash that may occur if the carriages are not perfectly snug in the T8 riser. Your print may vary based on calibration, but the flange on my T8 nut is 3.5mm thick and the perfect thread length for a screw in the nut trap is 17mm.
