Buying less than $5 worth of parts from the hardware and printing 2 brackets you can have an above filament spool holder that can carry up to 5 spools. It is very strong, and eliminates filament tangle (and breakage). Beauty of this design, it's easy to take apart for spool replacement, and if you decide you need another 5 spools, just replace the elbow with a Tee and go up another level. This does require you to drill 2 sets of holes into the top metal frame, 2 inches apart, using a .125" drill-bit.
The bracket has a chamfer and a lead-in draft so it's easy to insert, but gets nice and snug tight when it bottoms out.
Requires you to buy:
Four 6-32 x 2" screws
Four 6-32 locking nuts
a length of 3/4" PVC pipe (enough for at least 32")
2 PVC elbows
On a monoprice / flashforge creator X printer, I made the horizontal PVC pipe 15.5" long, and the 2 uprights 8" long each. Hole were drilled 1" offset from the inner cutout.
