When my bike is loaded for a bike tour, I couldn't attach a light to the seat post as that becomes obscured by my camping gear. Since my light, a Cygolite Hot Shot Pro, only came with a rubber seat mount I had to create something that works with my rack, a Tubus Logo Evo. This can work with other seat light mounts.
