Remote Direct Drive for any extruder This transmission can be used with any direct-extruder that has a NEMA 17 motor installed. Used module 0.8M 10T helical gear, 45 degree, transmission ratio 1:1. Considering printing with ABS plastic with 100% fill, the total weight of the entire device and components is approximately 35-40 grams. For comparison: my old extruder was on a 365 gram motor, and a second motor with the same weight was moving along the axis. I can’t imagine what came to mind to an engineer creating this miracle. After such an upgrade, the carriage will decrease in weight by 700 ±10 grams. Most modern extruders already have a gearbox built-in, so it was customary to use a transmission ratio of 1:1. To lighten the weight, you can use an aluminum tube with a diameter of 5 mm, its weight is much less than a shaft made of stainless steel. The tip of the flexible shaft will have to be slightly narrowed to a diameter of 3 mm. I recommend to print the casing with a 02-03mm nozzle.
