Recently taught a class on 3D printing being used in industry to middle school student as part of a how to design and 3D print summer course. Wanting to share an example of a mock-up assembly of "something", I decided to design, print, and assemble a fun rocket with a payload.
I used knurled pressed inserts for plastics (http://www.mcmaster.com/#press-inserts/=13y0181) and matching machine screws (http://www.mcmaster.com/#machine-screws/=13xzrpq). I used 4-40 and 2-56 size screws and inserts as that is what I already had on hand.
Pictures are of:
1) The Planetary Lander (or anything else someone decides to call it)
2) Top Cover removed
3) Payload Assembly removed
4) - 6) different views of Payload Assembly and it's components & structure
Used different brands (& colors) of PLA for the various parts. Will need to print 3 Legs while all the other parts only require 1 piece.
***To my knowledge, this does not represent anything real and is solely the creation of a sleep
