It is my belief this is a calendar (solar) as much better and more thoroughly explained above.

I found other Roman Dodecahedron's on thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:762005
... but I think that the holes are not exactly centered. Hopefully this parameteric version is more centered.
Also you may reconfigure all the holes according to what makes sense for you. I have not as of yet figured out what size holes or orientations are correct for various latitudes. I think this could be or has been calculated. If you have these values than you can print a version for your area. Good luck!

Historically I suspect this was related to planting times for winter harvests.
I was thinking of making one for "the Rut" and peak deer season, as its a calendar based on sunlight so should function for any annual periodic thing.
