Ryu (リュウ / 隆) is the main protagonist of the Street Fighter series. He made his debut in the 1987 arcade fighting game Street Fighter as the main playable character.[23] A powerful and fearless fighter, Ryu is an experienced martial artist, highly focused on his training, aiming to become the strongest he can. He himself is one of Capcom's flagship characters and also the mascot of the long-running franchise. Therefore, Ryu is one of the most recognized characters of the fighting game genre.
