You may also want to seal with with a food safe coating; look online for best practices for this. I have rather wide hands so this is scaled to nearly 5 inches across on the opening. You may want to scale it down for you. As for any food safety concerns, since it is salt and nothing can survive in pure salt there is no risk of bacteria growing. The only concern would be plastic particles; but sealing it will solve that issue.
