A sap tap for tapping sap from a tree, into a PET bottle or anything that fits a PET bottle thread.
The idea is to go out in spring, when the snow is just about to melt. Drill a hole into a tree (birch is supposed to be best, unless you happen to have some Canadian maple), about 5cm deep, 80cm from the ground. Attach the sap tap, fix the bottle to the tree, and wait some days. Once the juices start flowing, your bottle should fill up quickly - a large tree carries about 400 litres of water a day, and produces 10 litres a day easily. Plug the hole when you have collected enough. You can attach the cap to the top so as not to lose it.
This is more for small scale testing and tasting, obviously. For larger scale you can directly use a large bucket and a small garden hose.
