The R2 (and probably other printers) have the SD card slot facing up in a location where it's likely to collect dust/debris and get accidentally mashed. It's very common to accidentally eject the card with your arm when removing or installing the build plate or any other sort of scenario where your right arm is inside the enclosure.
As with every appliance that relies on an overused SD card slot, eventually the slot starts getting unreliable. Then one day you'll be in the middle of a print, and you'll reach in to brush away some stringing. Your shirt sleeve gently brushes the SD card, and the whole printer locks up, wasting half a print. Then one day it happens again. Take steps to solve the problem.
You can try cleaning the card slot, and you can use a sacrificial adapter to take the wear. This dumb plastic thing glues over the card slot and protects it from getting mashed or bumped. It does make it more awkward to get cards (esp microsd) out, but eh. Pictured is the 10m
