Another UPDATE (1/1/2020) Apparently, I am a bit obsessed. The kilt needed a belt, and the belt needed a buckle. I found a buckle blank on Amazon (intended for leatherwork https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035DH55C/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_BvxdEb8WBXGR7) and revisited all the original files to make the thing. Pretty easy to print flat on most FDM printers, though the insert could benefit from a raft due to the fiddly tentacles. Printed in PLA, a little love from a heat gun helped it make the slight bend to the blank.
UPDATE (before I learned a date would be nice): A brainwave caused me to revisit the brooch. I have uploaded a version with no supports and a revised logo on the back. This should be useful to those using a non-FDM printer.
(1/1/20 sidenote: I just thought of a workflow that would have made this project much easier, and made the files easier to print as well as making the finished product easier to mold and reproduce. Maybe I'll start all over one day. Live and learn. Like
