A simple stand for HueForge calibration seashells. I was looking for a way to take photographs of my ever-growing collection of calibration seashells in a reliable and consistent way, so I knocked up a quick stand. It's fairly good at keeping the seashell in place. Technical talk: the stand has an approx. 2.9° angle to keep the shell from falling off. Since the seashell is around 76mm high, doing some trigonometry means the printed seashell has a depth of just under 5mm, taking into account the tilt angle and the depth of the print itself. Ideally we want the entire seashell to be in sharp focus. For example, using a Canon RF35mm macro lens, the seashell on the stand fills the frame at a distance of around 220mm (from the sensor plane, not the front of the lens!). Using a free online depth-of-field calculator, I can use an aperture of f/2.8 and achieve a depth of field of around 6mm. To be safe, I'll use f/4 (with a depth of field of around 9mm).
