My wife had a security camera system that she sets up to record things on a temporary basis. We needed to be able to mount them to tripods. So I designed this part to make to the security camera mount and insert a 1/4-20 threaded insert into the middle.
A true plastic heat insert for plastic turned out to be quite expensive compared to the inserts for wood working. These wood inserts are about $1.25 at local hardware store compared to around $8.00 for heat insert.
The hole in the middle is 3/8 inch so the insert will fit inside. I used a soldering iron to heat the brass, and used a screw driver to turn into the plastic until seated flush.
The overall diameter is 60 mm. The 3 screw holes are 120 degrees apart. I printed at 20 percent infill, and 6 walls so screws would have plenty of solid material to bite into.
