The flower pot operates using the proven wicking principle and consists of up to four components. The basic structure includes three main parts that are simply inserted into one another: Base (water reservoir) Inlay Bottom Inlay Top An optional float (either 3D-printed or purchased) can be added to monitor the water level in the reservoir. How It Works After assembling the parts, the pot is filled with soil or a suitable granulate. It is important to choose a substrate that does not mold and efficiently draws water upward via capillary action—ideal for the wick system. Once the plant is potted, water can be regularly added through the larger fill opening. A second, smaller opening is designed to hold the optional float, which serves as a water level indicator. Filament Selection – Material Recommendations Please choose the filament according to the intended placement of the flower pot: PLA is only suitable for indoor use without direct sunlight. It may deform when exposed to heat (e.g., on a sunny windowsill). For outdoor use or sun-exposed areas, we recommend at least PETG, or ideally ASA, as both offer greater UV resistance and heat stability. Tip: ASA also provides a matte finish and excellent weather resistance—perfect for long-term outdoor use. Enjoy planting and placing your self-watering flower pot!
