Shift Lever Extension

If you need a longer shift lever for better ergonomics, possibly due to installing a body lift, there are a few ways to extend a shift lever in a vehicle.

The first method is to cut the shift lever near the base and then weld in a section of steel rod or tube to span the gap. This technique can also be used to re-orient the shift lever if it's hitting something around it in a particular gear. As this welded section is typically below the shift boot, it will not be visible.. You can use some steel rod of similar diameter to the shift lever or cut off a length of a bolt and use that. Grind or machine a bevel on each end to aide in welding.

A second option for small changes in shift knob height and to add adjustabliity is to use a short set screw inside
