Regardless of where it was in the kitchen, after a few months the open/close action of the lid would rub against the wall and wear the paint or finish off. I designed a spacer to sit on the top/back of the can to keep it a few inches away from the wall and not rub when the lid opens and closes.

This design is not perfect, I made a little jut at the bottom which was supposed to hook on the back, but it is too high. If you remix this, maybe reduce that little jut up to half height (you can see what I mean in the photos).

So far it's working well, even with this flaw. If you have this can and this problem, I hope it helps you.
