The inspiration for this project was borne from how much I love and hate the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard. The layout, shape, and ergonomics of the Sculpt are fantastic, but I hated the membrane keys and the constant supply of AAA batteries it needed, thus, the Skull-Pter was created. (Pter is latin for "Wing" and "Skull-Pter" is meant to be a friendly nod to the Sculpt).

The design is inteded to improve ergonomics without sacrificing the flexibility of the Quefrency design. The two halves can easily be removed and used as a true split keyboard, or put back together in the "plank" configuration without any tooling or extra components.

While the board does sit nicely in the recessed base I have added several magnets embedded in the base and inside the board for stability and convenience.
