Snapshot: Implement a battery powered off-the-shelf pump to create a new bee smoker which can create smoke within 10 seconds. (here is a link but it's not mine: http://youtu.be/cSdVXs1qhWc) Detail. This is a hybrid hdpe/ld spc270 material smoker bee housing. It consists of: 1. off-the-shelf air pump used for air mattresses. I've seen this online selling for $8 retail. 2. the battery housing. I made this for injection molding, so no die-lock condition, a few lifters will be needed. I didn't add any draft to the data to keep things simple. probably won't cost more than $1 at most to manufacture. 3. a spc270 material pipe for transferring the air into the tinder box. this is just to force the air onto the tinder, this current design's opening is at the mouth so smoke will exit through here. in another version i'm going to include the opening where the eyes are at for adjustability of the exit nozzle. this pipe has a bend to it and a tapered cut so cost could be as high as $1. 4. the tinder housing consisting of spc270. this is a standard blank welded together design with a post process punch. cost $0.30 5. welded on ribs for the feet, asthetics, and the handle. this may be a bit expensive as it requires a fair amount of welding. $2 6. handle with insulated material. i have not run cae to determine what the optimum material would be, but let's budget $2. 7. the face of spc270 with 'eyes' which can be optional inserts for directional spraying (if time permits I'll include another version) 8. snap fits for attachments with guide for easy insertion and durability. (cost is already) my rough cost is $14.30 but that's based on rough assumptions of mass production and no prototype. a 3D prototype would be nice to confirm some of these assumptions.
