For a hobbyist soldering skills is a most. I'm using it daily in my Arduino projects and quadcopters builds.
Free hands is an essential tool to perform good solderings and keep fingers safe from being burn

To build one soldering free hands you will need the following Tools

Laser cut machine , use a CNC router or print the PDF and hand saw it
3D printer - I own these DIY printers and I'm very happy with their perfomance Tevo and CR-10
Soldering station - I highly recommend this one
Screw drivers set

Materials

12mm Plywood - For the base
Hatchbox 3d Printing PLA - For the battery tray
Flexible arms * 4 Pcs
Nickel strip - For battery tray
Silicon wires - to wire everything
I had this Magnifying lens with LED laying around

Build Instructions

Print the PDF and saw the Plywood or Laser cut Soldering free hands base. AI
Print Battery cap.STL
Fit all parts as in the images above
