Raumschach (German for “Space Chess” is a 3D Chess variant invented by Ferdinand Maack in 1907. It is sometimes regarded as the most user friendly and popular of 3D chess variants (Star Trek 3D chess is also popular, but playable rules were only added after board design, making it less user friendly). In addition to standard chess pieces, there are two additional pawns and 2 pieces called Unicorns, which move somewhat like 3D bishops. Full rules can be found here: https://www.chessvariants.com/3d.dir/3d5.html To ease understanding of pieces moving through 3 planes, I recommend printing boards in alternating colors (White bordered, black bordered, white bordered, etc). This makes it so that pieces moving in 2 planes (bishops, attacking pawns) stay on the same color, similar to 2D chess. I also prefer to alternate colors of columns/pins to maintain the aesthetic, but that is optional. To assemble, you'll need to print 5 boards, 4 column bases, 4 column tops, 12 middle columns, 20 pin
