I am a hobby woodworker and often need a star knob for some jig. I used to buy them from Amazon or make them out of scrap wood but since I got a 3D printer, I thought I should print one. Since I have a number of different setups with M5, M6, M8, ¼-20, 5/16" and other bolts, I wanted to make a parametric model that can work as a knob with embedded bolt or a through hole knob. This design does just that. You specify the knob outer diameter and number/shape of the star spokes, define the bolt through hole size and nut dimensions. In this design, you can just print the knob, insert the bolt and somehow glue it with epoxy or crazy glue. Or you can use a threaded hex bolt and insert that and either fix it the same way or insert the plug and glue the plug into the knob body. For any shop projects, PLA works just fine. If you want something stronger use PETG or ABS. It prints without any supports and prints very fast (~22 mins per set). You can clone these on the print bed for multiple copies
