I designed this simple tool to create a deep void in the soil and to help get the roots planted deep with little effort as possible. I was able to plant 25 strawberry plants in around 8 min.
1. Push or pound the tool into the ground to make a wedge shaped void. It helps to push it back and forth to help the hole keep its shape as the wedge is removed.
2 .Wrap the bottom inch or two of roots around the bottom of the wedge and slowly push the tool back into the void you made in step one. Stop when the crown of the plant is just at the soil surface.
3. Pull out the wedge slowly and the plant and roots will stay in the ground. Press the soil firmly around the top of the plant and move on to the next one.
It worked really well and the plants are thriving. It saved me a bunch of time vs. my old way of digging a small hole for each plant then backfilling. Give it a try. Good luck!
Strawberries used were purchased at Jung Seed.
