So I had the need of a magnifying glass for soldering circuits. I had saved one from a magnifying glass / light combo. I remembered I had seen a Constant Force Joint Phone Holder created by someone named "bornity". At first I downloaded the original STLs and tried remaking them with Fusion, but it's too small for my needs. So I decided to go back to the drawing board and make it way bigger. The magnifying glass is 300g and the joints can hold it with PETG washers, but maybe some other materials will have better friction like TPU. The arm hasn't felt like it's at its limit yet, I feel like I can still squeeze the joints a bit more, but is still shakes, I don't really know if I can actually dampen the swaying. But all in all I think it's a great first prototype. I repurposed an old very heavy lamp base, and parts of the original bornity design just to not waste the plastic.
