I made another floating marker, but I made this one so it actually sails too. I used some Sunfish sales catalogues to get the hull lines right.
The sail is deliberately slightly undersized for reasons of weight/balance.
Use a 1/8" (3.5mm) steel rod for the tiller/rudder. You may want PTFE tape to tighten up the tiller fit.
Notes on the Sail
After the sail is printed,
- Remove it, trim, and return it to the print bed.
- Reheat the bed to an annealing temperature. Say 60-70C for PLA
- Take the heated sail and manually deform it into a very gentle airfoil. The corners should be deflected by 2-to-5 mm from their "flat" position.
The airfoil for the sail comes from two factors: the shape, and the fact that the printbed-side of the sail will be smoother than the topside, meaning there will be differential airflow.
